Home Is Where The Heart Is
In England, more than 274,000 people are currently experiencing homelessness. This means that one in every 206 people in the country are living without a safe place to live.
A report by Shelter suggests that 183 children sadly lose their homes every single day, with an alarmingly high number of 126,000 children estimated to be currently homeless.
This is particularly damaging for children, their mental health often suffers and it can negatively affect their education.
There is a growing housing crisis, social housing is scarce and so called affordable housing is hardly actually affordable.
I was homeless myself when two of my children were very small and I have never forgotten the desperation I felt. I was very young, had no family and spent six months in three different B&B’s, two years in two temporary accommodations, finally housed in a condemned maisonette which had to be demolished before I finally found “Home”.
Being “Home” is so important, “Home” is far more than just a building and this is why I love to help people with their housing problems.
A family I have recently helped was treated very badly by their local authority and I applied for a review of the decision and submitted a formal complaint. The family received an apology, compensation and the best result possible.
Homeless doesn’t need to mean voiceless!
